It's a little more than packing a toothbrush and deodorant.
Flight Preparation
Miami to Atlanta (1.5 hr).....Atlanta to Tokyo (14 hr) ........ Tokyo to Bangkok (5 hr) with (4) hours of layovers....plus transportation to and from the airport..... 22 hours of travel time....if everything goes right!
I try to sleep as much as possible....but even in First Class, I don't fit well in the seats. So I sleep in 10-15 minute periods....kind of zoning in and out. Although in-flight movies are available, I like bringing my I-phone loaded with Audio Books.
I also bring my computer bag loaded with earplugs, valium, notepad, mints, copies of my book to handout, extra shirt and underwear, and a of couple magazines.
Getting my House Prepared
Cleaning the refrigerator out is the most important thing. I have come back after a long trip to find strange things growing in the Vegetable Compartment, I learned the hard way!
I'm concerned about mail and bills. Mail will sit and wait at the Post Office....most bills are paid on-line. The only problem is with the odd bill or invitation that comes along that I cannot respond to. OOPS!
Patio Furniture? It is still Hurricane Season, but I've decided that it is way too much work to drag all the furniture on my balcony inside....so I am playing the odds that no hurricane will hit us this late in the season?
Packing Suitcases
Since I own a place in Bangkok, I already have most things already there.....however it seems like I am always filling two suitcases of stuff.
Already in Bangkok...electric toothbrush, toiletries, clothes, shoes, books, DVD's, TV, Radio, Jack Daniels....what else do I need?
Earlier this year, I spent (6) weeks in Bangkok, and although I have everything there already, I realized I was missing the MOST IMPORTANT TRAVEL ITEM..... Comfortable Shoes.
I have (4) pairs already there, but none of them are really comfortable walking shoes....so my goal was to go out and find the most awesome walking shoes for this trip. Why? Because it is impossible to find size 12 Extra Wide anywhere in Southeast Asia....last trip was a disaster and I will never ever be in the position I put myself in during my last trip.
When traveling....you must have comfortable shoes!
